Website health check

Nineteen technical checks plus Google’s real mobile speed scores, in about ten seconds. This is the same sweep I run on day one of every retainer, and the same one a $297 teardown starts with. It costs nothing and there is no form in front of it.

Free, no signup, about ten seconds. Nothing is stored unless you ask me to send you the fix list.

WHAT IT LOOKS AT

The checks, and why each one matters

Can search engines see it at all

A stray noindex tag or a Disallow left in robots.txt will remove a page from Google completely. It happens most often right after a rebuild, and the traffic chart just slopes downward while everyone blames the algorithm.

Title and meta description

The title is the single biggest on-page ranking factor and the blue line people actually click. The description is free ad copy. Google truncates both, so length matters as much as wording.

Headings

One clear H1 tells people and crawlers what the page is about. Several competing H1s, or none, blur the topic and cost you relevance on the exact terms you were trying to win.

Canonical URL

Without one, the http, https, www, non-www and tracking-parameter versions of a page can all rank separately and dilute each other. It is invisible in a browser and obvious in a crawl.

HTTPS and mixed content

Insecure assets on a secure page get blocked silently. Images vanish, scripts stop running, and nothing tells you. I found seven of these on my own site the day I built this tool.

Redirect chains

Every hop costs time and leaks a little authority. One redirect is normal. Three to reach a product page is waste that nobody has looked at since the last migration.

Render-blocking scripts

Scripts in the head without async or defer stop the browser mid-render. Adding one attribute is often the fastest measurable speed win available on a site.

Images

Missing alt text is free traffic left on the floor and an accessibility failure. Missing width and height is the usual cause of content jumping around while a page loads, which Google measures and penalises.

Structured data

Schema is how you become eligible for star ratings, FAQ dropdowns and other rich results. Without it you lose clicks to competitors who have it, at the same ranking position.

robots.txt and sitemap

The first file a crawler reads, and the map it uses afterwards. Getting robots.txt wrong is catastrophic and surprisingly common. Having no sitemap just means new pages wait longer to be found.

Server response and compression

Everything on the page waits for the HTML to arrive. Slow server time caps how fast the site can ever feel, no matter how much you optimise the front end.

Google’s own mobile scores

Real PageSpeed Insights numbers for performance, SEO and accessibility, plus Largest Contentful Paint, layout shift and blocking time. Measured by Google, not by me, so there is nothing to argue about.

HONEST LIMITS

What this check cannot tell you

It reads one page and the site’s robots and sitemap files. It does not crawl every URL, it cannot see your analytics or Search Console, it does not know what you sell or who you sell it to, and it has no opinion about whether your copy is any good.

So treat the score as a smoke alarm, not a diagnosis. A site can score 95 and still be failing commercially, and a site can score 60 with nothing on it worth fixing. Judgement is the part you cannot automate, which is what the teardown and the retainer are actually for.
